Celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival at the UK Shaolin Centre: A Magical Evening of Tradition and Community
On Tuesday, 17th September, the UK Shaolin Centre welcomed the community and our members for a heartwarming celebration of the Mid-Autumn Festival, and what an unforgettable evening it was! The event was a beautiful blend of traditional Chinese culture, from a serene tea ceremony to an incredible live performance, with a spectacular turnout from our local community, businesses, and guests from the Chinese community.
A Tranquil Beginning: Traditional Chinese Tea Ceremony
The evening kicked off at 6:00 PM with a peaceful Chinese tea ceremony, setting the tone for what was to come. Guests gathered in our space, surrounded by the soft, calming aroma of tea leaves, as they sipped on traditional brews. Along with the tea, everyone enjoyed delicious mooncakes and fresh fruit, iconic treats that symbolise reunion and happiness during the Mid-Autumn Festival. The rich flavours of the tea paired perfectly with the sweet and savoury bites of the mooncakes, creating an atmosphere of warmth and connection.
Enchanting Live Music Performance
At 6:30 PM, the room came alive with the enchanting sounds of Traditional Chinese Music. We were honoured to host Ping Hua and her talented team at Chinese Arts Southampton , who delivered an outstanding performance that mesmerised the audience. A highlight of the evening was the awe-inspiring talent of a young girl from their troupe, whose performance was nothing short of spectacular. Her skill and grace brought smiles to every face, and it was truly a moment to remember.
The music filled the space, creating a rich cultural tapestry that resonated deeply with everyone present. This segment of the evening beautifully encapsulated the spirit of the festival — a celebration of tradition, art, and community.
Building Bridges: A Coming Together of Communities
It was heartwarming to see so many guests in attendance, from local businesses to members of the Chinese community, all gathered to celebrate this special time of year together.
Classic Kung Fu Cinema: A Cultural Highlight
To cap off the night, at 7:00 PM, guests settled in for a screening of a classic Kung Fu film. This cinematic masterpiece was a thrilling tribute to Chinese martial arts, a fitting finale to an evening hosted at the UK Shaolin Centre. The energy in the room was electric as guests cheered, laughed, and gasped in awe at the action on screen.
A Festive Success
We’re delighted to say the event was a fantastic success, with a great turnout and a perfect mix of tradition, culture, and entertainment. Mooncakes and tea brought people together in conversation, the live music performance captivated the room, and the film screening added a sense of nostalgia and excitement to the evening.
For us at the UK Shaolin Centre, it was a true pleasure to host such a diverse group of people, all coming together to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival.
The event was free for members, and we were delighted to welcome non-members as well. Finally, we’d like to extend our sincere thanks for all the generous donations, both in cash and kind, received on the day, which will go toward hosting future events.
A special thank you to Dim Sum on the High Street for generously providing the delicious food that added to the evening’s festive atmosphere.
